IMAGING SUPPLIES COALITION PRESENTS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION AWARD TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION
Miami Beach, Florida The Imaging Supplies Coalition for International
Intellectual Property Protection (ISC) awarded The U.S. Federal Trade
Commission a Significant Contribution Award for their efforts in
battling fraud in the Imaging Supplies Industry. The award was
presented at the Coalition’s Seventh Conference on Counterfeiting and
Fraud held at the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach.
The Award recognizes the Federal Trade Commission, Bureau of Consumer
Protection, Division of Enforcement, for their work in combating
telemarketing fraud. The award was presented to Elaine Kolish,
Associate Director of Enforcement, Bureau of Consumer Protection.
Since 1986, 33 office supply fraud cases, involving more than 60
corporate and individual defendants have been prosecuted. The cases
have resulted in bans and bonds for the defendants as well as court
ordered $15 Million in penalties and consumer redress.
The FTC has also taken the consumer education “to the streets” in its
largest consumer education program Project BOSS (Banish Office Supplies
Scams). The Project BOSS initiatives include a revamped website,
www.ftc.gov/boss, a video news release, print ready news articles and a
PowerPoint presentation.
The ISC worked with the FTC in developing an ad for use by the
industry’s media, resellers and the OEMs as well as a PowerPoint
Education presentation for use by the OEMs and their channel partners.
In presenting the award, ISC President & CEO, Bill Duffy said, “In
our nine year history as a coalition we have never given an award.
Today we are awarding our first ever Significant Contribution Award to
the Federal Trade Commission, for their outstanding efforts in working
with the ISC, our Members, and Resellers in combating this illegal
activity that preys on innocent victims who use our members’ equipment
and supplies.
The FTC holds workshops and listens to the industry and has taken actions that have yielded very positive results.”
